During the summer of 2019, I was a photojournalist and graphic designer for Capital News Service. I was part of a team working on a long-term story about how the climate crisis is primarily affecting communities of color in Baltimore City, specifically McElderry Park in East Baltimore. This neighborhood was chosen because with the least amount of tree canopy in the city, it is easily the hottest neighborhood in the summertime. We had several focal points for the story including neighborhood history, how high temperatures affect people’s health, the impact of little to no tree cover, and what can the government and social justice organizations do to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. When the story is published, I’ll be sure to share the link with you all.
